Review

“Death Note" Volume 6 starts out flat, but picks up in episode 24.

In episodes 21-23 (“Performance,” “Guidance,” and “Frenzy”), the Yotsuba Corporation subplot continues as L and gang pursue Higuchi because they believe he is the killer Kira. After being caught in episode 24 ( “Revival”), the Yotsuba plot seemingly ends and Light FINALLY regains his Kira memories. Even more interesting than that is that L and his fellow investigators come into contact with the Death Note and see the Shinigami REM.

As I suffered through the first three episodes of this sixth volume, I have to say I was worried. The first four volumes were arguably some the best anime around and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. When the Yotsuba subplot rolled around, however, the show veered off track into a mostly needless direction. Granted, the plot was necessary for Light’s plan, but another more involving plan could have been hatched by the writers. Thankfully, episode 24 (aptly named “Revival”) seems to have revived this anime series as there are plenty of new developments that had me glued to my screen. I can’t wait to see what Light and L will do next.

On a side note, what is with the new screamo rock opening credits? I miss the old credits.

The widescreen picture is generally clear, although I did notice a few image blurs here and there. Viewers can watch the show in Japanese with English subtitles or an English dubbed version. The audio on both tracks is perfectly audible. The two tracks are presented in Dolby Digital Stereo.

Extras:

* Stickers, production art, and a clean opening and ending.

* Commentary on episode 23.

* “Behind The Scenes Part 6” with voice actress Colleen Wheeler who voices the character Rem.

"Can I Do It...Til I Need Glasses?" is a raunchy sex comedy with obvious jokes.
