Review

"Timelash" is not as bad as fans make it out to be.

“Timelash” has a notoriously bad reputation among Whovians as being one of the all-time worst episodes, but I whole heartedly disagree. Sure, the story has plot holes and the production values are cheaper than usual, but the satisfying plot and Colin Baker’s top-notch performance makes this an above average episode in this reviewer’s eyes.

I’ll grant you that the plot isn’t anything revolutionary, but I enjoy a good ol’ rebellion story. Plus, how can you not admire the references to a certain Sci-Fi author and the 3rd Doctor and Jo Grant? It’s enough to make any Who fan giddy. I also feel the need to mention the memorable disfigured and diabolical Bond like villain named Borad. The actor who played him really held his own against Colin Baker.

As for Colin Baker, I know some fans find him to be an obnoxious Doctor, but he is my personal favorite. I like the fact that he is a rude, protective, sarcastic, witty, egotistical know it all who hides his soft side. I also find Peri to be a suitable companion for him, even though she has a tendency to whine and shriek.

* Radio Times Listings, info text, photo gallery and a “Dr. Who” series 3 ad.

* Commentary by Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, and Paul Darrow. The three crack jokes, talk about the costumes, the sets, the script and the various actors and actresses.

* “The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly” is a 25 minute making of documentary that brings up fun facts like how the Daleks were originally going to be in this episode, as well as more information about the puzzling demands from John Nathan-Turner.

The Halloween classic gets remastered and cleaned up picture and audio for this year's edition, which includes an additional program.  In this holiday special, Linus believes the Great Pumpkin will come to the pumpkin patch and deliver goodies to all the good boys and girls who believe.  He sets up in the pumpkin patch while the rest of the Peanuts gang gets ready for a traditional Halloween tradition.  Also, we are introduced to Snoopy's epic battle with the Red Baron. 

The charm of this animated classic is timeless and if you ownan older dvd of the program, this new edition  is worth the upgrade.  This disc also includes another program, "It's Magic, Charlie Brown, where Snoopy's magic act turns Charlie Brown invisible.  Besides that, a new featurette "We Need A Blockbuster, Charlie Brown!"  is also included.  A great value for the family.
