“Cooler’s Revenge” and “The Return Of Cooler” are more formulaic “Dragonball Z” movies.

The plot: “Cooler’s Revenge”: After learning that his brother Frieza was defeated by Goku, Cooler and his goons travel to Earth to destroy Goku. “The Return Of Cooler”  finds a Big Get Star (inhabited by Cooler and his robot army) attempting to destroy New Namek by draining its energy. Naturally, it’s up to Goku, Krillan, Gohan and others to try and stop Cooler’s evil plan.

I consider myself a fan of “Dragonball Z,” but the movies leave something to be desired. My problem with the films is that are virtually all the same. There’s always a villain more powerful than the last arrives and Goku must defeat him. Later on, the villain is resurrected and Goku must do it all over again.

If that weren’t bad enough, there are some moronic plot holes here. In “Cooler’s Revenge,” we learn that Cooler had the opportunity to kill Goku when he was sent to Earth, but let him go. Additionally, we also find out that Cooler hated Frieza and yet he vows to seek revenge for him anyway out of family loyalty? What kind of lazy writing is that?

Luckily, not everything here is a waste. There are indeed some entertaining fight sequences here. My favorites include Piccolo facing off against Cooler’s thugs and the brief underwater fight between Goku and Cooler in “Cooler’s Revenge,” and seeing anything the robot army did in “The Return Of Cooler.”

The widescreen picture quality is decent. The colors are sharp and the prints have been cleaned up, but I still noticed dirt and gran.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 and Japanese Mono audio tracks are fine. The voice recordings and action sounded good to this reviewer.

The only extras are trailers for “Yu Yu Hakusho,” “Case Closed,” “Hana,” “Tsubasa,” “Raganrok,” “Dragonball GT,” “Samurai 7,” “Glass Fleet,” “Robotech,” and “Love And Honor.”

An Affair To Remember- 50th Anniversary Edition

Category: Quick Reviews
The story: Nickie and Terry meet on board an ocean liner and fall in love. Sounds like a fairytale romance come true, right? Unfortunately, both Nickie and Terry are already engaged to be married. Will the two call off their engagements and marry each other? Will they ever see each other after the sea voyage again? Will there be a happy ending? "An Affair To Remember" is highly regarded as the quintessential weepie, romantic chick flick. It has legions of fans across the globe, but it also has many detractors who find the film to be painfully corny. As for myself, I fall into the latter group. There's a good film somewhere in this 115 minute running time, but it's lost amidst LONG conversations with Nickie's grandmother, gag worthy musical numbers involving Deborah Kerr and children, a drug out ending in which Terry's character takes an eternity to tell Nickie what happened to her, and sub-par acting by both Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.

Movie Quotes

I've seen things you people wouldn't
believe. Attack ships on fire off the
shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams
glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser
gate. All those moments will be lost in
time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
