The logline: Goku and company face their biggest dangers in the fourth season as they face off against Garlic Jr., Frieza and King Cold, and the murderous Androids.

As far as I’m concerned, season four was the best (and last) good season of the “Dragonball” franchise. After the intense Android saga, the show lost its edge with the lackluster Cell and Buu Sagas and the disgraceful “Dragonball GT.” What made season four season so exceptional to me was the inclusion of future Trunks. In case you don’t know about this particular plot, the basic premise is that Trunks, the son of Bulma and Vegeta, travels back in time to warn Goku about the deadly Androids. What really impressed me about the short Trunks saga was that it really livened up the series as it was not only an intriguing plot device, but it was a nice departure from the constant fights, lame humor, and boring filler. It doesn’t hurt that Trunks is a bad-ass character too.

One of the other strong points of the season was the fights. While every season of DBZ has an epic fight sequence, season 4 is filled with them. The Trunks Vs. Frieza and King Cold fight is jaw dropping, and the battles with Garlic Jr. and the Androids equally stunning. People aren’t lying when they say “Dragonball Z” is the best action anime series, because it’s true. If you don’t believe me, just watch this season.

The 16:9 widescreen picture definitely shows the series age. There are lots of scratches and dirt, but I am glad it is presented in widescreen.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is top notch. The dialogue sounds clear and the action rocks the speakers. Viewers can also watch the U.S. Broadcast or the original Japanese language versions of the episodes as well.
