Review

Fred Astaire narrates this stop motion animated tale that centers around Sunny the bunny and the town of Kidsville trying to spread Easter traditions to an empty, children-less town called Town. Generally, I have enjoyed many of the Rankin/Bass productions, but unfortunately "The Easter Bunny Is Comin' To Town" is not one of their finest efforts. In fact, it's a frightfully bad blast from the past.
Not only do we get a laughable fictional story about Easter traditions, but we also are treated to headache inducing musical numbers involving a depressed train, chickens, and "the first man" to do such things as eating a pickle and an oyster. What this has to do with Easter or how this got made is anyone's guess. I'm just thankful it was only 50 minutes. The fullscreen picture quality and the Dolby Digital mono track have been beautifully remastered. If I hadn't known this special aired in 1977, I would have thought it was made recently judging by the superb transfer and audio. Extras: * Trailers for "Tom And Jerry Tales Volume 4," "The Smurfs Season 1 Volume 1," "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who Deluxe Edition," "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo Season 1," "Peanuts Valentine's And Easter Deluxe Editions." * "The Magic Of Stop Motion- A Gallery Of Shorts" includes three shorts titled "The Easter Express," "Breakfast Of Magicians," and "Floating Through Daydream Garden."
