Princess Gisele (Amy Adams) is transported from the fairy tale land of Andalasia to The Big Apple, courtesy of evil queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) to keep her from marrying Prince Edward (James Marsden. After meeting uptight lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his little girl, she becomes fascinated with her new surroundings and teaches people in New York the values she admires about living a fairy tale life.

Amy Adams is perfect as the Princess, as she manages to charm everyone she meets with her optimistic attitude. Prince Edward comes to rescue her from the "evil" place and although very campy at times also has some hilarious scenes. My favorite is when he stabs a bus and incurrs the wrath of its driver. The CGI chipmunk "Pip" is also a scene stealer as he is not intimidated by his new surroundings and comes across as a tough little guy. Patrick Dempsey is a little to stiff to begin with but eventually warms up to his role.

Included in "Enchanted" are tributes to many other Disney films with direct scene references to the classics; a poison aple offered by an old hag, a glass slipper left behind, the fighting of a dragon (Sleeping Beauty) and many others. On the Blu-Ray version of the disc, this is included as an extra java based game, called the D-Files, in which you are challenged to spot all the scenes during the film.

There are a few times when contemporary atttitudes go a bit too far but that would involve a spoiler.

Extras on the standard DVD include some deleted scenes, a making of feature of a musical number staged in Central Park (and a real highlight of the film) and interviews. The Blu-ray disc includes all of this plus the D-Files game.

It's hard not to like "Enchanted", with such great performances from the cast, memorable music and fast moving plot. Most important, Disney seems to found a sense of humor about its own material. "Enchanted is worth every penny and has something for the entire family.

Whose Line Is It Anyway?: Season One, Vol. 2

Category: Quick Reviews
Of course, "Whose Line is it Anyway?" features some of the best improvisational comedy ever seen on American TV, and the cool thing about having the show on DVD is you can skip some of the sketches that don't work as well (Wayne Brady is a funny guy, but I could never stand the musical numbers he's forced to perform). But, while it's great they've finally gotten around to releasing this stuff on disc, Warner has chosen the annoying trend of packaging only half a season at a time, meaning not only do you have to pay for two volumes, you half to wait several months before having an entire season. There's no qualms about the content, presented here uncensored, along with some unaired sketches and outtakes. When the show's really clicking (which is remarkably often), there's never been funnier sketch comedy series on television. From Warner Home Video
