Review

"Firehouse Dog" seems like another cynical, heavy-handed product designed to dupe parents into taking their undemanding kids to the movies. And, in many ways, it's just that. The story, in which pampered Hollywood mutt, Rex, winds up lost and in the care of the son of a firefighter, wavers clumsily between CGI slapstick and father-son drama. It's also phenomenally predictable to anyone whose ever sat through more than one or two "dog" movies in their life. But while the movie is definitely not worth a $60 night at the movies, it should make a decent rental for the kids, and maybe even tolerable for most parents to sit through once. The cast of human actors is above par for a film of this type, and Rex, while no Benji, sometimes exudes some scruffy charm. From Fox Home Entertainment.
