“Flash Point” is a highly unoriginal Hong Kong film that is made watchable by exciting action scenes.

“Flash Point” is more or less a predictable and routine story about undercover cops trying to take down drug smugglers. Like most Hong Kong flicks, however, it’s not the story that matters, it’s the action. Thanks to actor/action director Donnie Yen, the action is indeed worth your time. Yes, there are some silly scenes involving a turkey bomb and a fight at a driving range, but the sequences in the last half hour more than make up for the lackluster first hour. Some of the highlights include a gunfight/chase that begins in a hospital and ends in the city streets and a climactic shootout and hand to hand fight in (and near) a grassy field.

The widescreen picture could have used a sharper transfer, but it still looks far better than most Hong Kong DVD releases.

Viewers have the option to watch “Flash Point” three ways. There are Cantonese Dolby 5.1 and Cantonese 5.1 DTS tracks (with optional English subtitles) and an English 5.1 dubbed track. All three tracks sounded clear.
