Review

Get ready to laugh and laugh with this first season of the spy-spoof, "Get Smart". From the comedic genius of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, Get Smart is full of laughs and will entertain for hours.  Don Adams and his distinctive voice plays Maxwell Smart, agent 86 and Barbara Feldon plays the sultry Agent 99.  Produced at a time when James Bond at the movies and Man From U.N.C.L.E. on television were the most popular genre, "Get Smart" came in and poked fun of all that serious spy stuff.

HBO will be releasing each season set and have remastered and restored the picture and sound and the results are very impressive.  While they couldn't get rid of the visible grain, they did a fantastic job with the film prints.  Dirt and scratches are nowhere to be seen, a great accomplishment for a television show from the early sixties. 


Each episode is also introduced by Agent 99, Barbara Feldon in a voice over before the show begins.  This set contains the original black and white pilot, with guest star Michael Dunn (Dr. Lovelace from WIld, Wild, West) as Mr. Big and all 30 episodes from Season One.

You owe it to yourself to get this set of four discs and laugh at the timeless humor of Brooks and Henry once more.  It's a great value and you will be throughly entertained by this timeless comedy classic.

An Affair To Remember- 50th Anniversary Edition

The story: Nickie and Terry meet on board an ocean liner and fall in love. Sounds like a fairytale romance come true, right? Unfortunately, both Nickie and Terry are already engaged to be married. Will the two call off their engagements and marry each other? Will they ever see each other after the sea voyage again? Will there be a happy ending? "An Affair To Remember" is highly regarded as the quintessential weepie, romantic chick flick. It has legions of fans across the globe, but it also has many detractors who find the film to be painfully corny. As for myself, I fall into the latter group. There's a good film somewhere in this 115 minute running time, but it's lost amidst LONG conversations with Nickie's grandmother, gag worthy musical numbers involving Deborah Kerr and children, a drug out ending in which Terry's character takes an eternity to tell Nickie what happened to her, and sub-par acting by both Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.
