Review

An intelligent and compelling look back at one of the more intriguing media moments of the 20th century, in which newsman Edward R. Murrow stands his ethical ground against Senator Joseph McCarthy's communist witch-hunt. 
Filmed in beautiful black and white, and taking place mostly within the confines of the CBS television studio, "Good Night and Good Luck" features an all-star cast and outstanding attention to period detail to present a story that, despite having happened 50 years ago, is as relevant today as it was back then. The film deservedly earned 6 Oscar nominations, including a directorial nod to George Clooney, who's probably the most selfless actor-turned-director since Clint Eastwood, and character actor David Strathairn, who is 100% convincing as the chain-smoking Murrow. Pathfinder (Unrated)

An extremely violent and bloody epic which depicts a confrontation between Native Americans and marauding Vikings over 600 years before Christopher Columbus showed up, "Pathfinder" (a loose remake of a 1987 Norwegian film) is more about gorgeous scenery & rousing battle scenes than historical accuracy. In that respects, it succeeds. This is a great looking and fast-paced film, loaded with intense action scenes that'll easily sate any viewer's bloodlust. But in the wake of such similar films as "Apocalypto" & "300", it doesn't offer anything that hasn't recently been done better before (maybe part of the reason it was half-heartedly dumped into theaters). The cliched depiction of both Native Americans & Vikings doesn't help much - the Indians all speak in riddles or philosophize like Yoda, the dialogue of the bloodthirsty Vikings make Klingons sound like the Wiggles. Karl Urban does a decent job in lead role (as a Viking raised by Indians), though once he goes into battle mode, he bares more than a passing resemblance to Antonio Bandaras in "Desperado." Still, once it gets going, "Pathfinder" is seldom boring, and recommended to viewers who loved ANY of the many films I referenced in this review. From Fox Home Entertainment.
