Review

Only Quentin Tarantino would appreciate this double feature.

"Don't Open The Door" revolves around a young woman who returns home to take care of her ailing grandother. While there, she finds herself being terrorized and driven mad by an obscene phone caller. What can I say, everything about this film is atrocious. The acting is stiff, the film looks like it was shot in one of the crew's home, and the "villain" of the piece is unntentionaly hilarious as he constantly breathes heavily and fondles a doll. The script is naturally the weakest link as the heroine of the film is apparently too dumb to leave the house and stop answering the phone!

"Don't Look In The Basement," which does not even have a basement, is slightly better than the previous feature, but not by much. The story concerns a nurse taking a job at a unique sanitarium where the crazed patients roam around freely. Unless you like seeing mental patients scream and yell at each other about nothing of real interest, I'd advise avoiding this one. The sheer amount of plot holes and the far fetched story is bound to make intellectual viewer turn crazy themselves.

The only extras include a S.F. Brownrigg bio and trailers for "Don't Open The Door," "The Stitcher," "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things," VCI horror, and "Don't Look In The Basement,"

In conclusion: Skip this feature and watch the hilarious spoof trailer "Don't" from Tarantino and Rodriguez's "Grindhouse" films instead.

10.5 Apocalypse

Category: Quick Reviews
Not that anyone was really asking for it, but this two-part miniseries is a sequel to NBC's previous disaster epic, "10.5." It picks up immediately after the catastrophic events of that first miniseries, in which a bunch of quakes has decimated the West Coast. This time, a massive fault line threatens to literally tear the country in half. Along the way, the usual number of cities and famous landmarks meet their untimely demise. Like its predecessor, "10.5 Apocalypse" features lots of CGI destruction (some good, some phony as hell), too many subplots to pad out the running time to a deadly three hours, most of the same cast gawking in horror as they watch events unfold on computer screens, and the most worthless president in American history (Beau Bridges, not George W.), who pops up every 15 minutes or so to scream at his officials to do something about this mess. Still, if you keep the skip button on your remote control handy, disaster movie fans should find enough amusement to make this disc worth checking out. And, hey...it's presented in widescreen! From Echo Bridge Entertainment.

Movie Quotes

I've seen things you people wouldn't
believe. Attack ships on fire off the
shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams
glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser
gate. All those moments will be lost in
time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
