Review

Though original "Hellraiser" scribe Clive Barker had little to do with this second sequel, I personally think "Hellraiser III" is the best of the series. The previous two installments were good, but horror icon Pinhead (Doug Bradley) was never featured all that prominently, and when he did pop up, he was never the main villain (in "Hellraiser II," he's borderline sympathetic). Here, after a brief set-up, he's the whole nasty show, finally wreaking the spectacularly violent havoc we always hoped he would. The film's a bit heavy on the one-liners (like subsequent "Elm Street" sequels), and the story itself doesn't always play by the rules established by the first two films, but the movie is fast-moving, grimy, gory fun. Dominion - Prequel To The Exorcist

Category: Quick Reviews
I'm glad Paul Schrader's much-maligned "Exorcist" prequel, which chronicles young Father Merrin's early struggle with his own faith in the face of evil, has finally seen the light of day. This is the version that was originally scrapped (nearly in its entirety) in favor of Renny Harlin's flashy and gratuitous "Exorcist: The Beginning," mainly because Schrader was trying to do more than bombard the audience with special effects & gore. Don't dismiss this fine film as a simple alternate cut. Though the setting and some plot elements are similar, this is an entirely different movie experience, filled with great moments of tension, genuine suspense, smart dialogue and psychological drama. Though "Dominion" isn't without problems of its own (the CG effects still suck, and some cast memebers are guilty of severe scenery-chewing), it's far better than the driven-by-committee prequel from 2004. From Warner.
