Review

"Hitler: The Last Ten Days"  is a tour deforce for Alec Guiness as Hitler in this Italian-British production, which also stars Simon Ward as a young assistant witnessing the last days of the Third Reich from the Bunker. Guiness's performance is worth a watch by itself as it shows what a fine actor he was. He portrays Hitler as an out-of touch leader living on past glory and ignoring the facts, even as Russian troups close in on The Bunker. The supporting cast also has some fine performances in this mixture of Italian and British actors, supporting their leader out of fear until the end.

I was looking forward to this release from Legend as they have been restoring and colorizing classic films for a while but the print they used for this dvd is horrible. It is filled with dirt and scratches and looks very worn. Not a good debut for a company just introducing a catalog of Paramount titles.They should have taken the time to do some restoration of this title.

No extras are included on the disc.

Legend is promoting these Paramount titles heavily and have some unique offerings but need to do their homework and clean up these films before releasing them. "Hitler: The Last Ten Days"  is a good, accurate film and Alec Guiness deserves better.

Steve Carell, just off the success of 40 Year Old Virgin, tries his hand in a sort-of sequel to Bruce Almighty, playing a modern day Noah for Morgan Freeman's God. Carell has some funny moments as Freeman tries to convince him he is the Supreme Being, is suddenly attracting pairs of special effects animals into his yard and birds into Congress, and has a sudden appearance change. In the end though, this comedy is a little too heavy on the environmental, moralistic message to be watched more than once. Rated PG, the film is a safe family film for everyone.
