Review

"Human Beasts" is an 84 minute build-up to a rather obvious ending.

The story: A criminal named Bruno betrays his girlfriend and steals a bag full of diamonds. In the process of committing this crime, Bruno gets badly injured but is miraculously found and helped out by a father and his two daughters. At first, these people seem hospitable enough, but as time goes on it becomes apparent that they are hiding a secret. Who exactly are these people and what are their real intentions?

“Human Beasts” is one of those movies with a slow pace that builds towards a big climax. The problem is the ending is predictable, anti-climactic and frankly quite rather abrupt. Had screenwriter Paul Naschy not wasted so much time at the start, he could have stretched out the end events more because it’s clearly the most interesting part of the entire film.

Another odd aspect of the movie is some truly weird imagery. There’s a purposeful, albeit deranged dinner party with the weirdest people imaginable and even some man-eating pigs! Yes, for those who didn’t get enough man eating pig action in “Hannibal,” you’ll be glad to know that there is plenty here.

Extras include liner notes, a theatrical trailer, an introduction by Paul Naschy, a still gallery, and a 23 ½ minute low budget movie titled “The Vampyre” that stars Paul Naschy.

Hitler: The Last Ten Days

Category: Quick Reviews

"Hitler: The Last Ten Days"  is a tour deforce for Alec Guiness as Hitler in this Italian-British production, which also stars Simon Ward as a young assistant witnessing the last days of the Third Reich from the Bunker. Guiness's performance is worth a watch by itself as it shows what a fine actor he was. He portrays Hitler as an out-of touch leader living on past glory and ignoring the facts, even as Russian troups close in on The Bunker. The supporting cast also has some fine performances in this mixture of Italian and British actors, supporting their leader out of fear until the end.

Movie Quotes

I've seen things you people wouldn't
believe. Attack ships on fire off the
shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams
glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser
gate. All those moments will be lost in
time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
