Review

"In A Glass Cage" is a highly disturbing tale of an ex Nazi doctor/torturer/pedophile named Klaus who fails in an attempt to commit suicide. As a result, he is now confined to an iron lung and is looked after by his wife and child. Enter Angelo, a young boy who manages to become Klaus's nurse because he confesses to not only seeing Klaus torture a boy, but he also has his diary (which is filled with all of the repulsive acts that Klaus did) in his possession. Gradually, we learn that Angelo actually admires Klaus and that he wishes to continue the sick work that Klaus was doing. First and foremost, "In A Glass Cage" is not for the faint of heart. The film is a brutal and unflinching look at the horrific soulless acts humans are capable of. With that said, how exactly do you rate a film like this (hence the question mark rating)? I certainly have no desire to ever see it again, nor can I whole heartedly recommend it to the average film watcher. At the same time, however, the film is a hauntingly unforgettable, well made, well acted piece that understandably has become a notorious cult hit. I suppose the only thing I can say is see it at your own risk. The lone extra is a nearly 10 minute interview with Agustin Villarona in which he discusses the inspiration for the story and his experiences in shooting the film.

Southland Tales

Category: Quick Reviews
This second film from the maker of "Donnie Darko" was much anticipated for fans of Richard Kelly. Boasting a huge cast of talent, Kelly's tales involve World War III and southern California in a mixed up comedy, drama, satire of immense proportions. The cast includes Sarah Michelle Geller, Dwayne Johnson, Sean William Scott, Justin Timberlake, Cheri Oteri, Nora Dunn, John Larroquette, Miranda Richardson, Mandy Moore, Amy Poehler, Christopher Lambert, Wallace Shawn, Kevin Smith and Jon Lovitz. Quite a cast and a major attraction to this film.
