Review

This disc set is a 3 part documentary by David Grubin and is narrated by Liev Schriever. It's a very comprehensive history of Jews in America, starting with the first shipload that traveled to the New World in 1654. Through montages of illustrations and early photographs, this is a fascinating look at a small minority group in America that struggled to become accepted in the U.S. even while being targeted by prejudice and while still maintaining their culture and identity as a people. Modern interviews come from Supreme Court Justice Goldberg, comedian Carl Reiner, Jewish historians and mentors among others. Fascinating footage is included of famous American Jews, such as Lenny Bruce, Irving Berlin, and Betty Freidan. It is highly recommended to all.

Stacked - The Complete Series

Ah, Pamela Anderson...America's only true living Barbie doll. I think even the most cynical individual, male or female, has to admit, as a human specimen, she's fascinating to look at for a variety of reasons. As for her actual talent as an actress...well, she seems to be well-aware of what her true assets are, and Fox's short-lived series, "Stacked," seems to have a lot of fun with her image, right down to the double-entendre title. The concept, which has Anderson playing a blonde bombshell hired as a bookstore employee, surrounded by various goofy characters, isn't exactly a creative triumph, but it IS a better (and funnier) show than the countless leering TV promos made it look like. This 3-disc boxed set of every episode, including some never aired, is sometimes quite amusing, and believe it or not, Anderson demonstrates some pretty good comic timing (aided immeasurably by a crack-cast of supporting talent, including the always-great Christopher Lloyd as a pretentious bookworm).
