Laverne and Shirley - The Second Season

Review

The first spin-off of "Happy Days," this main reason for the show's success during its initial run has to be the fact it aired right after its parent show on Tuesday nights, because it was seldom as fresh, clever or funny. Not that it doesn't have its moments, but "L&S" is less about capturing life in 50's middle America than it is depicting its characters' wacky adventures. Were it not a "Happy Days" spin-off, "Laverne & Shirley" could have taken place in any decade. Still, there are some inspired moments of broad comedy to be found among these Season Two episodes, the best provided by goofball neighbors, Lenny & Squiggy, the show's MVPs. This second season set isn't quite as good as Season One, and it doesn't offer any extra features, but fans should enjoy it enough.

This travelogue of one Buddhist student's voyage to the many sacred sites throughout Tibet where various Dalai Lamas are either buried or received prophetic visions is a fairly fascinating view into a world that so many of us might never get to see.

Yet what is unfortunate about this disc is how little we actually do get to see of the gorgeous vistas that this one gentleman visits. The entire film is shot on what appears to be an old camcorder and is roughly stitched together like someone's vacation video.

For some insight into the world of Buddhism around the world, it offers much but as a visual exercise, it is quite lacking.
