“Legion Of Superheroes” is much better than I expected.

The Legion of Superheroes (which consists of Superman, Bouncing Boy, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad) are a team of super powered heroes who must face all sorts of evil threats. In this five episode disc, the team encounters a sorcerer, alien threats, an evil team called the Fatal 5, and a deadly weapon called the Suneater. Along the way, the Legion is helped out by other heroes such as Cosmic Boy, Shrinking Violet, and Ferro Lad.

Having endured the mediocre “The Batman” and “Teen Titans,” I was worried that “Legion Of Superheroes” would be another kiddy animated series. As it turns out, ‘Legion’ is actually a rather fun series. Yes, the show does get bogged down by a large cast of characters, but most of them get a good amount of screen time. Even better, the characters are actually likeable. In ‘Titans,’ the characters were NOTHING like they should have been and the humor (especially by Beast Boy) was cringe inducing. Here, the characters are all unique and are more fleshed out. Heck, even the humor works, especially during the episode titled “The Substitutes” which involves a group of wannabe superheroes who try desperately to become apart of the Legion.

I do have one complaint. Much like the Paramount “Alvin And The Chipmunks” discs I have reviewed lately, I am baffled as to why Warner is only putting out discs with only a few episodes. Again, why not just release the complete season sets?

The fullscreen picture quality is solid. The animation is very clean looking throughout all five episodes.

The Dolby Digital Stereo track is as clear as a Stereo track can be.

A Good Year

Category: Quick Reviews
While I personally prefer Russell Crowe as a reluctant savage (a la "Gladiator"), "A Good Year" showcases his considerable acting skills in this slight-but-entertaining romantic comedy. Despite the rather conventional story of a self-centered stock trader who learns to slow down & enjoy life after inheriting his dead uncle's French winery, Crowe comes off as charming and endearing as any similar character you'd care to name. Predictable to a fault, "A Good Year" nevertheless is an entertaining, funny and sentimental story buoyed by Crowe. And, since the film is directed by Ridley Scott, you know at the very least it'll look great. From Fox Home Entertainment.
