Review

This second DVD collection of films from the once popular comedy duo will, of course, be of huge appeal to their long-time fans, especially since they're all appearing on DVD for the first time. Most of these films were originally released shortly before Martin & Lewis split up, and the overall dip in quality from those included in the first boxed set is obvious. None of them have aged too well, but this set is still a nice nostalgia trip, and the five movies featured here are a hell of a lot better than most of Lewis' solo efforts. Included are "Pardeners" (probably the best of the five), "Hollywood or Bust", "Living it Up", "You're Never Too Young" & "Artists and Models." Every film but "Living it Up" is presented in widescreen, and they all look decent enough, though the sound quality isn't quite up to snuff. No extras are included, but this is a fan friendly set for Martin & Lewis completists. From Paramount.

Nancy Drew

Category: Quick Reviews
Emma Roberts, niece of Julia, does a great job in the title role. The film itself is delightful for parents and tweens. It also has repeat value making this a no-brainer purchase if you have a tween in the house. You'll definitely get your money's worth.
Nancy leaves her small town to come to Hollywood with her Dad (Tate Donovan) for a new job but soon learns the tough teens of Hollywood High are a lot to handle. She meets a nice boy (Josh Flitter) and son learns to win over the mean girls and of course, solve a mystery surrounding the death of an old movie star. The film is geared up for modern audiences so the action is fast and frantic at times without being overly frightening. The dialog is intelligent and witty.
This is a great family film and one that's a keeper. It looks like there will be a lot more Nancy Drew films to come until Emma is too old.
