"Monsieur Hire" is a Hitchcock wannabe.

The story: A loner named Monsieur Hire spends much of his time spying on a beautiful woman named Alice who lives in the building across from his. One day, Alice sees Hire spying on her which scares the living daylights out of her at first. Over time though, Alice begins to develop a strange relationship with Hire when they finally meet face to face. Meanwhile, Hire finds his life turned upside down when he is accused of murdering a woman. Did he kill this woman? Does he know who commited the crime? Is he hiding the truth from the police?

"Monsieur Hire" can best be described as a mixture of "Rear Window" and film noir classics, except it's nowhere near as thrilling. To me, 'Hire' suffers from a lack of realism and characters you can invest in. From the first frame we see Hire, we immediately dislike him and that feeling never changes throughout the film. He's simply a troubled and creepy individual that you do not want to see him on screen (even if that is the intention). His love interest, Alice, is no better. The second she showed interest in Hire, you knew she was untrustworthy. There's no way she would fall for him no matter how much Hire adored her.

The film also has one of the most distracting and out of place scores I have heard in awhile. It's so overpowering that it takes you out of the film. You're better off muting the film.

"Monsieur Hire" is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen in French with English subtitles.

Extras include an original theatrical trailer, a stills gallery, and a 2 minute interview with Patrice Leconte.

Reno 911!: The Complete Fourth Season Uncensored

Category: Quick Reviews
It's actually sort of amazing "Reno 911!" is now going on five seasons, nearly as long as some of the reality shows it parodies. One would think once the novelty of the concept has worn off, the show's days would have been numbered. Thanks to clever writing and a great ensemble cast, the show may not be as sharp as the first couple of seasons, but there are still a lot of healthy laughs to be found in this fourth season set. And it's a lot funnier than the recent theatrical film version, "Reno 911!: Miami." From Paramount
