Review

“Negima” is torture to sit through.

The plot (if you want to call it that): A 10 year old boy/wizard named Negi teaches an all girls class of middle school students. These two special episodes revolve around trips to the beach and the spa and the crazy misadventures the students (and Negi) get into.

 

“Negima” is quite simply anime at its worst. This pointless, brainless, perverted series does little more than focus on young scantily glad girls fighting, yelling, swimming, running around, and trying to capture Negi’s attention for one reason or another. Yes, there are the occasional scenes involving magic and goofy activities (such as Chupacabra hunting) that the girls engage in, but those scenes are few and far between. This is the type of disposable anime series that insults the viewer’s intelligence. Audiences deserve a more intelligent and complex anime series that has an actual point to it, rather than just blindly catering to what fans like to see.

 

“Negima” also has possibly one of the worst editing jobs I have ever seen. The series moves at a maddening pace. You will definitely find it hard to NOT get dizzy after watching this frantic mess.

 

The widescreen picture quality is solid all around. This is definitely a colorful series and the colors do shine here.

 

The English and Japanese Stereo tracks have a lot going on here. The tracks are crammed with sound f/x and overly loud dialogue.

 

* Funimation trailers.

* Textless songs.

* Schoolgirl Commentary on “Summer” by a producer and voice actors and actresses. The commentators do not add much as they didn’t make show. They mostly just engage in chit chat and speak as their characters.
