Review

"One Piece" follows a boy named Monkey D. Luffy (I'm not making this up folks). Throughout the first three episodes, Luffy fights a Pirate Queen, saves a swordsman named Zolo, and slowly begins to form a crew of pirates so he can pursue his dream of becoming the king of pirates and search for the infamous pirate Gold Roger's lost treasure. "One Piece" is yet another hyperactive anime series where characters punch each other senseless and scream every word at the top of their lungs. As if that weren't enough to make my head hurt, the series is overly goofy, especially when Luffy reveals that he has the ability to stretch his limbs like Stretch Armstrong after he ate a gum gum fruit. Such originality. Note: For some reason, all of the episodes are edited. 3 minutes are missing from each episode. Why not release the uncut versions? Extras include a CCG card, production art, Shonen Jump Magazine and Home Video ads, and a "One Piece: Grand Battle" video game preview. ONE PIECE

Ironside-Season Two

Raymond Burr's second year as the cantankerous Robert Ironside is another great DVD set from Shout Factory. Burr's acting is just as great as it was on Perry Mason, and so are his supporting cast of Emmy winner Barbara Anderson, Don Galloway, and Don Mitchell. The series addresses some powerful issues that were in the forefront in the early 70s and the shows writers were miles ahead of their time in addressing drug use, abortion, talk show hosts, and crooked cops. The show's cast was allowed to stretch a bit in Season Two as the main characters deal with their own personal lives, with episodes surrounding the other team members. Barbara Anderson, who plays officer Eve Whitfield, left the show after this season to the dismay of many fans.
