“The Optimists” is strictly for Peter Sellers aficionados.

The logline: Two poor young children manage to change a lonely street performer’s life by giving him a new perspective on life.

“The Optimists” is not what I’d call a particularly good film. The story is meandering and schmaltzy, the film is talky and runs way too long, and the themes pretends to be deeper than they really are. Still, it does star Peter Sellers and that is never a bad thing. In fact, Sellers is the lone bright spot in this film as his performance as a musical street performer is both funny, tragic, and all together human.

The 1.78:1 widescreen picture is worse than the usual Legend film releases. The print is downright ghastly as it’s filled with grain, lines, dirt, etc.

The audio track is also lifeless. The dialogue sounds scratchy and muffled and the audio even drops down a bit during the film.

Not surprisingly, no extras are on this disc.
