“The Perfect Holiday” is far from perfect.

The plot: A down on his luck songwriter named Benjamin meets the girl of his dreams (Taylor). The problem? Taylor is the ex-wife of rapper J-Jizzy who just happened to hire Benjamin as a songwriter for his Christmas album. Naturally, craziness and confusion ensue.

“The Perfect Holiday” is by no means a Christmas classic. It’s a syrupy, music montage filled uninspired Christmas themed Rom Com that recycles plot elements and characters from virtually every holiday classic. With that said, this sappy movie still manages to be watchable thanks to an all-star cast. Gabrielle Union, Charlie Murphy, Katt Williams, Morris Chestnut and Faizon Love all give fine performances here. They manage to rise up above the mediocre material and make characters that are likeable and have chemistry with others. The only two cast members who give poor performances are Queen Latifah as the camera mugging cheery narrator Mrs. Christmas and Bah Humbug played by Terrence Howard in a role he would no doubt like to forget.

The 1.85:1 widescreen picture quality is clean throughout. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is also solid. I did notice that the dialogue sounded a bit monotone at times.

Extras:

* Sony trailers.

* "Video Diaries: 6 Days On The Set Of The Perfect Holiday" is a 15 1/2 minute collection of behind-the-scenes footage of the filmmaking process.

* Commentary by producer Mike Elliott. In a word, boring.

* "Wish List: The Perfect Holiday In The Making" is a standard 12 1/2 minute making of complete with interviews, set footage and chats about the script and characters.

A British 'mockumentary' in the vein of "This Is Spimal Tap" & "Best In Show," this one features a fictional bridal magazine's attempts to hold a contest to see who can plan the most original wedding ceremony. Like "Spinal Tap," the dialogue is mostly improvised, and though the results aren't quite as hilarious, it's a pretty amusing film (and, thanks to some finalists who happen to be nudists, features more full-frontal male nudity than any non-porn movie you're likely to see). Filled with great performances by a cast of mostly unknown actors, this is a small winner of a film. From Fox.
