Review

"Saving Grace" is a hard hitting, adult detective show made for cable.  It stars Holly Hunter as Grace, a cigarette smoking, hard drinking, man-loving detective who has had a crisis of faith since the Oklahoma bombing, which claimed family members. She binges to the extreme and one harrowing night, she has an accident and asks for God's help.
The help comes in the form of Earl (Leon Rippy), a folksy angel that chews and spits tobacco.  The series follows Grace through her trials and struggles to find a comfortable spot in her life and settle some of her demons from within with Earl's help. All this while solving crimes in Oklahoma City.
The series is definitely for adults only, as there are many sex scenes and other adult themes.  Grace is played brilliantly by Hunter and brings an intensity to the role deserving Emmy nomination. Writing is first rate and keeps the show interesting from episode to episode as we learn more and more about Grace's life and the season ends on a cliffhanger as she confronts one of her past demons.
Picture is in widescreen and looks great and the soundtrack has a Dolby 5.1 surround sound.  Extras included are mostly commentaries on specific episodes and five behind the scenes featurettes with cast and crew over the four disc set.
"Saving Grace" has a big following and the second season begins July 14th.  It is certainly one of the most original, adult dramas on television today and we recommend you have a look at this first season set.
