Review

The story: A crazy Shogun frames one of his loyal samurai (Ogami) and also winds up having his wife murdered. Forced to travel alone, Ogami and his young son Daigoro wander the countryside where they survive via assassination jobs that Ogami takes here and there. Although "Shogun Assassin" is undoubtedly a bloody, action-packed cult classic, I don't even consider it a movie. In reality, the movie is a collection of badly dubbed scenes from two fantastic Japanese films ("Sword Of Vengeance" and "Baby Cart At The River Styx"). Why anyone would want to watch an incomplete, poorly edited English dubbed film is beyond me. Do yourself a favor and pick up the the 6 film Lone Wolf And Cub box set instead as those films are infinitely more satisfying. Extras included on this disc are a restoration gallery, program notes, Daigoro's history lesson, and trailers for "Shogun Assassin," "Sword Of Vengeance," "Lady Snowblood," and "Demon Spies."
