The fourth season of "Sliders" is a step-down from the first three.
In the 22 episode fourth season, the rag-tag team of parallel universe travelers (Quinn, Rembrandt, and Maggie) find Quinn’s brother Colin, tussle with the evil Kromaggs, and of course, try to get back to their own time.
Let me be clear, the 4th season of “Sliders” is simply not the same show that it once was. While I’m glad to see original cast members Jerry O’Connell and Cleavant Derricks still in this season, that doesn’t make up for the loss of both Arturo (John Rhys-Davies) and Wade (Sabrina Lloyd) who were arguably the show’s strongest characters. I know I’m not alone in saying that Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) and Colin (Jerry’s real life brother Charlie O’Connell) are pitiful replacements. Maggie is nothing more than eye candy and Colin doesn’t have anywhere near the acting chops that his brother does.
Another issue I had with this season is the abysmal and out of control “Stargate” like story arcs concerning the Kromaggs. I personally always preferred the stand alone stories as there are so many different parallel worlds the team can travel to. In my opinion, the Kromaggs simply ruined the series and the show could never recover after their introduction.
The season is not without merit, however. There are many intriguing episodes about the future, doubles, the dangers of media, and drugs such as “World Killer,” “Just Say Yes,” and “Lipschitz Live.” Also, the season boasts some geek favorite guest appearances by Armin Shimerman, J. August Richards, Adrienne Barbeau, and Kristanna Loken.
The only extras are trailers for “Battlestar Galactica” seasons 1-3, “The Incredible Hulk,” “Heroes,” The Rockford Files,” “SNL,” “Monk,” “Quantum Leap,” “Miami Vice,” “Knight Rider,” “The A-Team,” “Magnum P.I.,” and an HD-DVD ad.
