“Swing State” is up close and personal documentary feature film that mainly centers on politician Lee Fisher as he runs for Lt. Governor of Ohio alongside Democratic candidate Ted Strickland (who is running for Governor) for the crucial 2006 election. The documentary is essentially told from the perspective of Lee’s son Jason (who also co-directed the film).

With so many documentary films focusing on politics, candidates or wars these days, it was refreshing to get a political docu that focused on a new topic- family. Throughout the 93 minute run time, we learn how campaigning and politics has put a strain on the Fisher family. We really see how the family has been affected by politics as everyone wishes they could spend more time with Lee. However, not everything is sad in the Fisher family as we also get to see family at its best when they work together, support each other and show genuine love and affection for each other during good times and bad.

Political junkies should know this documentary also contains many great interviews with the likes of John Kerry, Bill Richardson, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and even Barack Obama. Most of these interviews were from various Ohio events in which the above politicians came out to Ohio to support Strickland for Governor.

The widescreen picture is sharp looking for a documentary. The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio track also sounded as clear as can be.
