“Dr. Katz” is a squiggly line animated series that aired on Comedy Central in the late 90’s. It centers around a therapist named Dr. Katz who listens to celebrities problems, insecurities, and random rants about everything thing from Ihop to memory less. In this best of collection, we see Dr. Katz being visited by Ray Romano, Janeane Garofalo, Dave Attell, Dave Chappelle, Denis Leary, Conan O’Brien, Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho, Louis C.K., Kevin Nealon, Patton Oswalt, Brian Regan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Richard Lewis, Kathy Griffin, Susie Essman, David Duchovny, and David Cross. Other main characters included in this series are Dr. Katz’s goofy son Ben and the rude, lazy, easily annoyed secretary Laura.

As one would expect from any animated show, this best of is hit-and-miss. The segments involving Dave Chappelle talking about superheroes, Leary ranting about children, Conan stealing jokes and anything Dave Attell says are genuinely funny, but there are a number of weak spots here as well. The Garafalo, Griffin, and Lewis bits in particular were completely unfunny to me, but I also find their brand of humor to be annoying to begin with.

Another problem I had is that the premise is very limited. It's essentially just a forum for comedians to try out their jokes. At least there are some moments of characterization between Katz and his son.

The Fullscreen picture quality is far from great as the animation is rather poor. I also noticed a few scratches popping up here and there. The Dolby Digital Mono audio track is acceptable. There’s not much to this track aside from dialogue and some music.
