“Til Death Do Us Part” is a watchable anthology series.

“Til Death Do Us Part” is an anthology series that focuses on dramatized real life stories about screwed up marriages in which the husband (or wife) winds up killing their significant other. Most of the 13 episode plots revolve around marriages being torn apart by jealousy, greed, or cheating. And yes, there’s even an episode involving a clown.

“Til Death Do Us Part” is by no means must see TV. The episodes all virtually have the same story structure and none of the stories are remotely shocking or all that surprising. We know someone dies and that the murderer will slip-up  and get busted by the cops. With that said, it’s still an entertaining show that is made watchable by host John Waters who plays the “Groom Reaper.” John Waters (director of cult classics like “Pink Flamingoes”) brightens up the series with his amusing Rod Serling esque appearances and witty/corny one-liners. It’s a shame, however, that Waters didn’t step behind the camera as he no doubt would have made a truly bizarre episode.

I have no real complaints with the anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen picture. All of the episodes looked clear to me. The audio was also solid, but not very strong as it lacked punch.

The only extras are interviews with Ken Hanes, Dara Cohen, John Waters, and John Morayniss. The group basically restates the same thing over and over as they talk about the show’s premise and so forth.

Samurai Champloo Volume 1

Category: Quick Reviews
"Samurai Champloo" is a popular anime series that takes place in the Edo period of Japan. The twist? The series also infuses modern day rap/hip-hop elements into the time period. The story, so far, involves a young girl named Fuu who rescues two badass swordsmen (Mugen and Jin) from being killed. After they are freed, Fuu enlists the two men to find a samurai who smells like sunflowers (strange, I know). Along their journey, the trio encounter danger, fellow swordsmen, and people who are out to kill them. While the series may have an overly simplistic storyline, the colorful characters make the show come to life. The cocky Mugen, the serious and calm Jin, and the bubbly and determined Fuu are all very distinct characters. They are all complete opposites and can't seem to agree on anything, which is what makes watching them so fun. Of course, the show's main selling point is the fast-paced and bloody sword fights. Sure, sword fights seem to be in virtually every anime series nowadays, but they're stylistically done here. Note: This is a promo copy that contains the first two episodes (dubbed) in 16X9 widescreen and in Dolby Digital 5.1. No subtitled versions of the episodes and no extras were included.
