To put it nicely, “Triloquist” is an unpleasant way to spend 80 minutes.

“Triloquist” does not have much in the way of plot. It is essentially a road movie involving a mute ventriloquist named Nobert, his crazy, murderous, loud-mouthed sister Angelica, and a wise-cracking ugly killer dummy who are on the run from the law.

When I saw that Mark Jones (creator of the fun-filled “Leprechaun” series) wrote and directed “Triloquist,” I decided to review it. That was a mistake. “Triloquist” is a downright disaster. On top of having a pointless story that merely consists of death, the film is neither funny nor horrifying mostly because the film’s tone is all over the place. The direction by Mark Jones is also both rough and amateurish. He continually splices in “Clerks” like B&W footage to give it a real, home movie like feel, but it doesn’t jive well with the film.

In addition, throughout the entire running time I felt like Jones was trying to create a story that he hoped would have “Saw,” “Devil’s Reject,” or “Child’s Play” like success. I’m sorry to say that is probably not going to happen.

The widescreen picture is typical for an indie film. There are dirt specs and grain, but overall the PQ is decent enough.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track was uneven. The dialogue is sometimes faint, and the song’s volume is way too loud.

Thankfully, the only extras are Dimension trailers.
