The story: After being outcast by his people, a strong Indian warrior is asked to return home to help fight off a rival clan led by the evil Chichak. Turok refuses, and as a result, most of his people are slaughtered. Wanting revenge, he chases after Chichak and winds up in a strange land where dinosaurs and cavemen roam. Will Turok get his revenge? Will he find something in this new world that will change his life forever? "Turok," which is based on a comic series, is very much an adult direct-to-dvd animated film. Viewers can expect to see lots of violence and gushing blood in virtually every shot, which is partly the problem. Instead of crafting a stronger story with fully developed characters, and adding more detail to the landscapes and dino designs, all of the creative team's attention seems to be focused on the blood. I realize this film was designed for a certain audience, but even gore hounds will find the endless violence dull after awhile. Perhaps I expected more from "Turok" as I grew up playing the fun-filled video games. Complaints aside, "Turok" is worth a gander for fans of the character and for those wanting to see animated dino action that does not involve the characters from "Land Before Time." As with most animated films, the widescreen picture quality looks sharp. The Dolby Digital Stereo track, however, could use some improvements. The music needed to be toned down a little. I wanted to hear the background noises and shaker speaking dino roars! Extras: * A 22 minute featurette titled "Total Turok" which looks at the history of the Turok comics and how the writers, producers, and directors adapted the material to film. * A commentary track by Evan Bailey, Tad Stones, Dan Riba, Curt Geda, and Frank Squillace. The group analyze the film and chat about the animation and characters.
