With all this talk about Obama getting a puppy for his kids when they go to the White House, you knew it wouldn't be long until producers at "The Animal Planet" came up with this hour long special about White House Pets in history.  Its an entertaining look of creatures, big and small that Presidents have had since George Washington.  The sheer variety of animals has captured the imagination of Americans and some of the choices have been surprising.

Told through narration, interviews with White House experts and through archival footage, the pets have there own unique stories while occupying the official residence of the President.  Interviews with Laura Bush is among the highlights.

Among the most Presidents that are mentioned, Theodore Roosevelt probably had the biggest managerie of unusual pets, which included snakes, parrots, and other gifts from constituants.  Famous pets are featured, such as FDR's dog Fallah, JFK's ponies, and Clinton's Socks The Cat.   The stories are amusing and very entertaining.

The best possible images are presented with cleaned up archival footage and Dolby digital sound.

There are no extras on the disc.

A very cute program for pet lovers, this is a unique look at "First Pets" that have occupied the White House and a great family disc.  Recommended.

Wallace and Gromit-Three Amazing Adventures

Category: Quick Reviews
If you own the previous disc of these excellent short films from Nick Parks, you should consider a repurchase of this hilarious trio of films made by Parks. You not only get the original films, "A Grand Day Out", "The Wrong Trousers"( my favorite), and "A Close Shave", which introduced Shaun The Sheep to audiences. Included on this disc are documentaries on the making of these films from the older BBC disc release, plus "Cracking Contraptions", a film included on the last dvd release, PLUS some additional Shaun The Sheep shorts not included before. All for a very nice price of $14.95 retail. A great entertainment bargain.
