Review

“Wild China” is another wonderful BBC documentary.

“Wild China” is yet another exhaustive, eye-popping BBC documentary that not only gives viewers an appreciation of nature, but teaches viewers about other cultures and the world around us. This six part series includes segments titled “Heart Of The Dragon,” “Shangri-La,” “Tibet,” “Beyond The Great Wall,” “Land Of The Panda,” and “Tides Of Change.” The six segments cover everything from North China, the coast, various wildlife (such as birds, the Snub Nosed Monkey and Chinese Red Panda), the forests, towering mountains, the people, the cultures, the religions, the sea life, the nomads, the rice fields, etc. The series even manages to touch upon growing concerns such as overpopulation and environmental problems.

 

Overall, if you love to learn and see stunning nature images, you should not hesitate to pick up “Wild China.”

 

The 16:9 widescreen picture quality was fine, but I would much rather watch the Blu-ray version as it would no doubt look sharper since the documentary series was shot in Hi-Def.

 

The Dolby Surround 5.1 audio track was also solid. Both the narration, score, and sounds of the various locations were perfectly audible.

 

The only extras are BBC America, Lovearth.com and “Planet Earth” ads and a 25 minute making of titled “Hunting Dragons.”
