Review

The anime version of "Witchblade" fails in the story department.

The story of the second volume is more of the same. Mother/Witchblade wielder Masame contains to raise her daughter, work with a corporation, and fight X-Cons. The only new plot element to these episodes is the discovery that a Clone Witchblade. This second volume of “Witchblade” contains four episodes titled: “Search,” “Change,” “Past,” and “Reciprocity.”

I wish I could say the second volume is an improvement, but alas no. There simply isn’t enough forward movement in the story here and we get WAY too many scenes with pointless characters like the nosy reporter and Masame’s housing residents. I really wish the series would have stuck closer to the comics as those story arcs was far more intricate and had far better characterization to boot. In fact, you’re better off skipping this series and picking up a “Witchblade” comic instead.

As with volume 1, the widescreen picture quality is sharp looking for an anime series. The audio tracks, which include Japanese with optional subs, English 2.0 and a dubbed English 5.1, are also solid all around. I would advise not listening to the dub though.

* Trailers and textless songs.

* Japanese cast interviews with voice actors Rihoko Amaha and Yusuke Tozawa.

* “How To Create A Comic Book The Top Cow Way” is a delightful 17 minute extra that looks at the process of how a comic book is put together. We see the entire process from script to coloring. A must watch for fans of the medium.
