"Yellow River Fighter" starts out with the main character (Ma) saving a Warlord from being killed. Before he can even be thanked, Ma quickly rushes off back home to his family. As he arrives home, he finds that his entire village is being slaughtered and he tragically witnesses his wife and daughter's death. From there on out, Ma's life falls begins to fall apart, especially when he begins to work for the Warlord he saved (not knowing that he is murderous and corrupt). While the movie may suffer from rough editing, a laughable English dub, and a so-so plot, the intense action makes one forget the flaws. From the fast paced sword fights at the start to a drunken fight in the street, there's never a dull moment in the 94 minute running time. Even better, the sword play tends to take place at some truly eye-popping locations, namely an icey beach and next to a waterfall. The only extras are a trailer and a scrolling filmography of the cast and crew.
