Review

“The Zombie Diaries” has a good concept, but it is poorly executed in this low, low budget horror film.

“The Zombie Diaries” is another shaky cam/”Blair Witch Project” esque zombie flick that centers around a group of survivors, documentary filmmakers, and scavengers (who all have video cameras) in small U.K. villages during a zombie epidemic. While it sounds intriguing on paper, the film is anything but. ‘Diaries’ is flat out unwatchable. Everything here feels staged and phony. The fact that the film has no budget or actors doesn’t help either. There are night scenes that are literally just shot with a flashlight. It is meant to be creepy, but you can’t help but laugh at the terrible production values and attempts at suspense. Avoid this at all costs and watch “Diary Of The Dead” if you want a zombie film that succeeds at going for realism.

Note: Ignore misleading front and back cover art. There is nothing remotely resembling those images in this film.

The widescreen picture contains low, low quality video. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is tolerable, but is far from high quality.

Extras:

* Dimension trailers (including one for ("The Zombie Diaries").

* 12 deleted scenes.

* "Until The Last Light Goes Out: The Making Of Zombie Diaries"- A 4 part making of that covers the characters, the outbreak, and the F/X.

* Commentary by writers/directors Kevin Gates and Michael Bartlett. If you actually want to hear an analysis of this film, by all means listen to this track.

* Commentary by cast members Russell Jones, Anna Blades, Craig Stovin, Jonathan Ball and Hiram Bleetman. The cast mainly just enthusiastically recalls their filmming experiences.

Homeland Security

Category: Quick Reviews
This film, produced in 2004, addresses the start of the agency now known as Homeland Security. Starring Tom Skerritt and Scott Glenn, the film tells the background of events leading up to 9-11 as well as how a national network of different agencies came together after the assault on our country. The script tries to tell the story without a lot of flag waving and the drama comes across as entertaining yet thought provoking. The characterisations of the people involved were a bit too squeeky clean to be believable but this drama is certainly the best of what has been produced about 9-11 so far.
